The Golden Jubilee Conference Hotel, based in Glasgow, has always been a unique property. Being the only 4* hotel and conference venue owned by the NHS in Scotland, directly linked to the Golden Jubilee National Hospital - the venue provides outstanding conference facilities and offers all of the amenities you’d expect from a 4* hotel whilst also offering support and resources to colleagues across NHS Scotland.
It is a challenging, and frightening, time for many at the moment in the midst of the Coronavirus outbreak. The NHS is being impacted like never before, whilst many other businesses are closing their doors for the coming weeks and months. Hotels, venues and restaurants across the industry are ordinarily places where people come together to celebrate as friends and family and to collaborate as colleagues and peers. Now, at a time when being apart is so important, this just isn’t possible.
That is why it is important that now, more than ever, the Golden Jubilee Conference Hotel steps up to support the NHS during these difficult times, offering help where-ever possible. The Golden Jubilee Conference Hotel, like many other properties across the UK, took the decision to temporarily close its doors to hotel and conference business in March this year. This allowed the venue to turn their efforts into assisting NHS staff and patients to maximise the work that can be done by the Golden Jubilee National Hospital and also NHS Scotland as a whole. The venue will be re-opening later in the year and are looking forward to welcoming back hotel guests and conference delegates but are currently doing their bit to help by offering additional resources to the NHS.
With 15 conference and meeting spaces on site, the Golden Jubilee Conference Hotel has fantastic facilities for conferences and meetings. Currently, some of these meeting rooms have been converted into office space to allow space to be freed up in the hospital for additional ward space and also to allow departments to work at a safe distance from each other. Larger conference rooms within the hotel are being used as socially distancing meeting spaces to allow important face to face meetings and staff updates to take place within the NHS during this time. Rooms with much higher normal operating capacities are now being used by small groups, with chairs spread across the space to allow colleagues to come together to meet at a safe distance.
As the National Waiting Times Centre for Scotland, the Golden Jubilee sees patients from all over Scotland throughout the year. Hotel bedrooms on site are commonly used by patients who have to travel for appointments, and also their families to allow them to be close to their relatives receiving treatment. This allocation of bedrooms has now been increased to provide additional capacity to the NHS.
These are just a few of the steps that the Golden Jubilee Conference Hotel have taken to assist the Health Service in just a few short weeks and further measures will be taken as this situation evolves to help where possible. Staff at the hotel are proud to be able to support the NHS in the fantastic work that they are doing to tackle the Coronavirus pandemic in Scotland at this time.
