In this month's edition of our Hotel and Conference Blog, I want to talk about the benefits of fitness and exercise for improving not only your health and well-being but as a way of relaxing and de-stressing during busy conferences and events.
We know that conferences and events can be a stressful time. Even if you are only attending as a delegate, it can be a lot to take on board in a short space of time between networking, workshops and seminars. At the end of the day it's important to have somewhere to sit down, relax and chill out to gather your thoughts.
Throughout the hotel, we have aimed to make sure there are plenty of ways for you to do this: from our newly refurbished bedrooms to our B-Bar Lounge and Restaurant.
As Guest Experience Manager, however, it is my job to offer that something a little bit extra to help you unwind. While it may sound like a contradiction, studies have shown that getting up and exercising is one of the most effective methods, alongside a good night's sleep, for helping reduce fatigue, increasing alertness, concentration and releasing endorphins to make sure you are getting the most out of your event.
All overnight guests have complimentary access to our on-site Health Club, which includes a gym, steam room, sauna, swimming pool and spa pool.
As a fitness enthusiast myself, I am constantly trying to come up with new and interesting ways to make our visitors aware of the fantastic health and well-being facilities we offer, encouraging people to try something new while they are here, to keep up their fitness regime or even just take the time to relax in our pool area. We have a variety of fitness classes which run every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday including Boot Camp, Box-Extreme, Core Busters, Circuit Training and Muscle Pump.
Of course, the gym isn't for everyone. While the Scottish weather might not always allow it, if you get the chance, why not have an outdoor meeting in our Conference Garden or enjoy a "Walk and Talk" meeting along the River Clyde, through our Hotel gardens?
Sometimes, the range of facilities we offer can take customers a bit by surprise and they haven't come prepared. Usually this is someone who doesn't have a pair of shorts or a swimming outfit, which we sell at the Health Club. What we weren't quite ready for was the gentleman who arrived for a conference wanting to use the gym, but had only brought formal shoes. Going above and beyond, I arranged for him to be taken to ASDA to buy a new pair of trainers, making sure he could use the gym when he got back.
